Retaining Walls

retaining wall
Recently, while on a few jobs in Marshfield and Hanover, we've seen a few retaining walls that are nearly collapsing. Retaining walls are structures designed and constructed to resist the lateral pressure of soil when there is a significant change in ground elevation. Some of the walls we've seen may not have been installed correctly or some may just be nearly a century old. Gardenin' Angels can build retaining walls from timber or stone that last a lifetime.

Here are a few of our philosophies on retaining walls:

- Design and build the wall with your family's needs in mind. How will it fit in with your lifestyle and the way your family functions?

- Create a solid base and plan for drainage. A retaining wall should not solve a problem on one area only to create a problem in another area.

- Ensure the wall is level and use backfill to add support.

- Incorporate creativity. Adding curves, lighting, stairs, or built-in planters are some options to add beauty, function and value.

Thanks for pointing out that retaining walls are structures designed to resist the lateral pressure of soil and any significant change in ground elevation. I guess we should get some construction in our backyard to prevent any damages to my property. It would be even more necessary since we are near a hill, so soil erosion might happen if there is heavy rain or a hurricane.

There are many types of materials that can be used to create retaining walls like concrete blocks, poured concrete, treated timbers, rocks or boulders. I truly appreciate your great post!

I never knew that when there is a major shift in ground elevation, retaining walls are planned and built to counteract the lateral pressure of soil. I never thought that it would be like this, I'll share this with my aunt. Thank you for the information about the retaining wall.

Traditional retaining wall structures are constructed of concrete blocks or wooden facias combined with one or more layers of reinforcement.

It got me when you said that retaining walls can resist the pressure of the soil. As you said, this can add support and also beauty. My husband wants to improve our property for our senior parents. With this, we will look for contractors tomorrow morning who can install retaining walls in our garden.

I like that the tip that you gave me about it is necessary to consider how your family function and lifestyle when planning about the design. A couple of days ago, my cousin told me that he was planning to replace their present retaining walls since they are creating soil erosion in their backyard, and he asked if I had any suggestions on what would be the best solution. I'll remind him that contacting a well-known landscaping service may help them provide more information about the retaining process. Thanks to this enlightening article.

It was interesting to know that retaining walls can boost the curve appeal of a property and increases its value. That's probably why my mother wants us to have retaining walls. I should advise her to hire a contractor that can execute her desired design.

It's interesting when you said that for the drainage of your project, you should protect the area of it for safety. A couple of days ago, my father mentioned that he was planning to replace their current retaining walls because it is causing soil erosion in their garden, and he asked if I had any idea what would be the best option to consider. I'm grateful for this informative article, I'll tell him that consulting a well-known retaining wall service can provide information about the process.
